We have an opening in our S-CCS (Stuttgart Computational Cognitive Science) lab:
PhD researcher on the topic of “Visual computing for ERP-based brain activity”
on a 100% TVL-13 position for 3 years.

The PhD position is closely linked to the Institute for Visualization and Interactive Systems (VIS). For the first 1.5 years, you will work in the SFBtr161 “Quantitative Methods for Visual Computing” and be included in their Graduate Training Program. The initial topic stretches from an analysis of current visualization techniques in ERP research, the design, implementation and documentation of new open-source interactive tools for traditional and regression-based ERP analyses, and finally their evaluation in novice and experts.
Due to strict funding rules, the position should start as soon as possible – initial remote work is possible.

What you should offer:
- A genuine interest in scientific advances
- Scientific integrity, confidence to question authority (as “science is the belief in the ignorance of experts”), and the ability to stand up for good science
- Coding skills (Julia/Python/R/Matlab preferred over C/C++/Java etc.)
- Experience with event-related time series (e.g., ERPs, BOLD/FIR-modelling)
- Best case: Statistic skills (especially multiple regression)
- Best case: Visual computing skills (e.g., user-studies, visualization)
- Background in cognitive science, statistics, neuroscience, visualization or related field
- You should be prepared to do some teaching (max. 1 course/semester) and B.Sc./M.Sc. supervision
- Excellent command of English in writing and speech. German is not required
